Remote-friendly
Remote-friendly means a company allows people to work away from an office, but it may still require you to live in a specific country, already have work authorization, overlap with certain time zones, or be employed through a local entity.
It means flexible location within limits, not automatic international hiring.
Globally remote
Globally remote usually means candidates in multiple countries may be considered. Even then, companies may only hire where they can run payroll, use an Employer of Record, or legally contract with workers.
Globally remote may let you work from your current country, but it does not necessarily include visa sponsorship or relocation.
Sponsor-friendly
Sponsor-friendly means a company has some history, willingness, or capacity to support work visa sponsorship. It is not a guarantee for every role.
Sponsorship often depends on the country, role, salary, candidate experience, company licence setup, timing, and business need.
How to compare a role
Ask: can I work remotely, can I work from my country, can I be hired as an employee, do I need existing work authorization, can the company sponsor a visa, and is relocation supported?
Do not treat “remote” as a complete answer. The exact combination matters.

- Can a role be globally remote but not sponsor-friendly?
Yes. A company may hire globally as contractors or through local payroll coverage without offering visa sponsorship or relocation.
- Can a sponsor-friendly role require office attendance?
Yes. Some sponsored roles are on-site or hybrid because immigration, salary, training, or team requirements depend on location.
